What We Do

Coaching

“Coaching encourages learning, invites creativity and delivers high performance. It respects the individual, builds confidence and generates a culture where responsibility sits with the performer, not the manager. In this way people become accustomed to taking decisions and acting quickly and with flexibility.”

Miles Downeyauthor of Effective Coaching (Orion, June 1999)

FAQ’s

Coach Supervision

‘Supervision is a place where a living profession breathes and learns…supervision can be a very important part of taking care of oneself, staying open to new learning’
Hawkins and Shohet

“A regular, protected time for facilitated in-depth reflection on coaching practice”
(Adapted from Bond and Holland, 1998)

Before engaging a supervisor, you may find this helpful:

https://coachingsupervisionacademy.com/home/csa-supervision/#benefits

Benefits

  • Deepen your self–awareness and strengthen your skills as a coach
  • Safeguard your practice ethically
  • Build confidence and creativity
  • Explore your work and any challenging client issues in a safe learning environment
  • Pay attention to the ethics of coaching and how to handle complex boundary issues

What is supervision? Supervision is sometimes described as coach-mentoring. Experiential learning is at the heart of supervision. It is conversation-based learning between two professionals – a working alliance. The objective of this alliance is to give the best possible service to clients.

Why do I need a supervisor or coach-mentor? Primarily to develop your competence as a coach. Having the opportunity to reflect on your work, and talk through tricky client issues to explore different approaches will help both you and your clients.

Having a Supervisor helps you to gain Professional Work:   Increasingly, organisational buyers of coaching are specifying that external coaches working for them should be in regular supervision.

Achieve Professional Accreditation: Many professional coaching bodies are now either insisting or advocating strongly that members receive regular supervision.

All our organisational story projects can be evaluated, using our evaluation framework which has been formally assessed through a rigorous academic process. The evaluation framework can be adapted to suit your needs and outcomes.

What is Coaching

“The coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”
International Coach Federation

Is coaching like having therapy or counselling?

Coaching looks at the present and the future – where you are now and where you want to be. You will not be asked to analyse the past.

Are there different types of coaching?

Yes. There are many definitions of coaching as well as different models of coaching: eg career coaching, life coaching, business coaching, leadership coaching, executive coaching and coach-mentoring.

Is coaching the appropriate discipline for the changes I want to make?

Coaching is not always the solution. You may benefit more from other disciplines, such as skills training, mentoring, counselling, therapy, career advice or business consultancy.

What does a coach do?

I will work with you to:

  • Discover and clarify with you, what you want to achieve
  • Encourage you to discover solutions and strategies for yourself

Where does the coaching take place?

Choose between telephone coaching or face-to-face coaching. Or I can travel to your workplace (travel fees apply).

What can I expect in the first few coaching sessions?

We will work together to:

  • Assess where you are and where you’d like to be
  • Set specific goals and outcomes for the coaching
  • Explore what motivates and energises you
  • Corporate coaching: assess company goals in relation to your own goals

Is there a syllabus or set programme?

No. You set the agenda.
However, the coach will follow certain steps or principles which give structure to the process.

What else should I expect?

  • To be continuously and positively supported
  • To be challenged

How long does the coaching last?

This will vary according to your needs. I recommend at least six sessions of coaching to get the best benefit from your investment.

How much does coaching cost?

The average national rate is between £70 and £200 an hour (according to a survey by the Association for Coaching).
I offer a flexible payments scheme, and different tariffs according to whether you are self-funded, sponsored by your organisation, or are a student/postgraduate.

What qualifications are necessary for someone to call themselves a coach?

The market is not regulated; anyone can call themself a coach. Check carefully before investing your time and money. A trained coach will be able to describe their model of coaching, their qualification. A professional coach will also receive supervision on their coaching. They are likely to be a registered member of a professional coaching body. I am registered with the Association for Coaching and am fully insured.
